Inclusive Curriculum Law
The Inclusive Curriculum Law, which took effect on July 1, 2020, mandates that all Illinois public schools include the contributions of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) individuals in the teaching of Illinois and United States history. The Inclusive Curriculum Advisory Council of Illinois, which includes PHIMC’s Alliance, Equality Illinois, and The Legacy Project, developed this Guidance to support educators and school administrators with implementation.
Know Your Rights!
A five-part English-Spanish bilingual project dedicated to teaching young people their rights in school. The project educates all students on their rights in specific subject areas, with a focus on LGBTQ+ students’ rights.

The Illinois Youth Survey
The Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) has funded the administration of the Illinois Youth Survey (IYS) since 1990. The IYS is a self-report survey administered in school settings every other year. It is designed to gather information about a variety of health and social indicators including substance use and perceptions, bullying, school climate, nutrition, and physical activity.
Registration for the survey is currently closed as the team prepares for the next survey administration in 2026.
The Alliance is continually curating resources and tools for LGBTQ+ youth in Illinois.
Advocates for Trans Equality
Advocates for Trans Equality fights for the legal and political rights of transgender people in America. Leveraging decades of experience on the frontlines of power, they shift government and society towards a future where Trans people are no less than equal.
Brave Space Alliance
This is the first Black trans-led LGBTQ+ Center in Chicago. Their programs and services focus on health, housing, food, and identity.

Gender Spectrum

GLAAD
GLAAD is the largest media advocacy organization for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) community. It enhances media accountability and fosters community engagement to ensure that authentic LGBTQ stories are recognized, amplified, and realized.
GLSEN
Founded in 1990, GLSEN is the leading national organization working to create safe and inclusive schools for all. GLSEN works to ensure that LGBTQ+ students are able to learn and grow in a school environment free from bullying and harassment.
GSA Network
GSA Network is a next-generation LGBTQ racial and gender justice organization that empowers and trains queer, trans, and allied youth leaders to advocate, organize, and mobilize an intersectional movement for safer schools and healthier communities.
Human Rights Campaign
The Human Rights Campaign and Foundation strive for equality, equity, and liberation for all LGBTQ+ individuals. As the community’s largest civil rights organization, they inspire and mobilize pro-equality voters to elect supportive leaders and advocate for equitable policies.
National Black Trans Advocacy Coalition
Established in 2011, The National Black Trans Advocacy Coalition is the only social justice organization led by black trans people to collectively address the inequities faced in the black transgender human experience. The National Black Trans Advocacy Coalition works with communities in the U.S. and across the globe to foster diversity, inclusion, and equality for all people and is led by the Black Transmen, Inc., Black Transwomen Inc, and Black Trans MX nonprofit organizations.
PFLAG
PFLAG is the nation’s largest organization dedicated to supporting, educating, and advocating for LGBTQ+ people and those who love them.
Prairie Pride Coalition
The Prairie Pride Coalition (PPC) is dedicated to the implementation of full civil rights protections for the LGBTQ+ community. They serve the community in McLean County, Illinois where they provide resources, support, and events that create connection and community for all people.
Reimagine Justice Illinois
Reimagine Justice Illinois (RJI) partners with schools and communities to create the conditions necessary for young people to thrive socially, emotionally, and academically and achieve success in all aspects of their lives, now and in the future. RJI is a research-to-action organization that engages in community and state-level policy development, implementation, and advocacy.
SPARTA Pride
SPARTA Pride stands as a beacon for transgender individuals who currently serve or have served in the U.S. military. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit, independent of the Department of Defense (DoD), its mission is to support, educate, and advocate.
