This free virtual training is for healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurses, physician assistants, pharmacists, mental health providers, substance abuse professionals, social workers, case managers, and public health professionals. CE’s will be available upon request at registration.
This training uses interactive exercises and group discussions to examine how to work effectively with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, and other (LGBTQ+) clients of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities.

Participants in this training will:
- Discuss nuanced terms and concepts commonly associated with LGBTQ+ culture to support critical thinking
- Discuss the difference between cultural competence, sensitivity, and humility
- Discuss historical societal perceptions about LGBTQ+ individuals and how they impact LGBTQ+ engagement in health care
- Review concepts related to heterosexism, heteronormativity, and personal bias
- Develop cross-cultural respect/communication skills to improve interactions with LGBTQ+ clients and co-workers
- Apply best practices to improve LGBTQ+ engagement and retention
- Discuss techniques to obtain a robust sexual history
