SUMMARY:Chicago Reentry Taskforce
DESCRIPTION:Convened by PHIMC in partnership with AIDS Foundation of Chicago (AFC)\, the Chicago Reentry Taskforce focuses primarily on issues related to Chicago and Cook County for current and formerly incarcerated individuals. The taskforce prioritizes training and discussion around barriers to reentry and changes that are relevant in Chicago\, Cook County\, and high-prevalence areas statewide in order to provide a public health response to mass incarceration.The taskforce has the following goals: Engage Chicago and Cook County providers working at the intersection of public health and mass incarceration to identify the current landscape and propose strategies to create a public health response to incarceration and HIVIdentify and recruit key stakeholders and people with lived experience to develop the narrative around incarceration and public healthDevelop a public health response and innovative solutions to combat incarceration and syndemics that include HIV\, hepatitis C\, and substance use disordersIf you provide services in the Chicagoland area and would like to participate in the taskforce\, please contact reentry@phimc.org.

DESCRIPTION:For many people\, the end of the year brings images of happy family gatherings\, big dinners of turkey and stuffing\, holiday music\, and cozy fires. For others\, the holidays can be a difficult time – a time of family conflict\, financial strain\, loneliness\, grief\, and seasonal affective disorder (SAD).People in recovery\, or those who are actively using\, may need extra support to manage festive but stressful holiday celebrations. Join the Illinois Helpline for Opioids and Other Substances for a special presentation on Monday\, November 21\, from 1:00 – 2:00 pm to learn about the Helpline as well as some of the challenges people face during the holidays when they are experiencing or recovering from substance use disorder. Register here. The Illinois Helpline for Opioids and Other Substances is a centralized information and referral hub helping to connect individuals to harm reduction\, recovery\, and support services across the state. Since 2018\, PHIMC has partnered with Health Resources in Action (HRiA) and Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to manage outreach and community engagement for the Illinois Helpline for Opioids and other Substances.
